Claims of Covert Action Behind Iran Unrest – Blumenthal Points to CIA and Mossad
Journalist Max Blumenthal, editor of The Grayzone, offered a detailed analysis of Iran's current crisis in a recent interview on the Scott Horton Show (@scotthortonshow). He challenged the mainstream narrative of the protests, stating they have been "militarised" and directed by foreign intelligence services as part of a "regime change operation." Blumenthal cited a Mossad social media post in Farsi and similar language from former CIA Director Mike Pompeo as evidence of this covert campaign. He described scenes of severe violence—including attacks on security forces, mosques, and infrastructure—framing the events as organised "riots" rather than peaceful demonstrations.
The discussion connected the unrest to economic warfare, highlighting how U.S. sanctions and secondary financial restrictions have contributed to hyperinflation and the collapse of Iran's rial, fueling public discontent. On the geopolitical front, Blumenthal addressed the high risk of escalation, noting that while U.S. strikes were reportedly called off, continued pressure from Israel and factions within the U.S. government could lead to a limited military strike or an attempt to target Iran's leadership. He warned that any such action could provoke immediate retaliation against U.S. military bases in the region and Israeli strategic sites, potentially triggering a wider war.
