No accountability for COVID, claims Jeffrey Sachs amid US government cover-up allegations
Daily Politics Desk Opinion
Claims of a lack of accountability for COVID and allegations of a US government cover-up were the focus of a recent interview featuring economist Jeffrey Sachs on The Jimmy Dore Show.
In the discussion, Sachs outlined his view that the most plausible explanation for the origins of COVID-19 is a lab-related incident linked to US-funded research, rather than a natural spillover from a wet market. He argued that gain-of-function research, allegedly supported by US government funding, was being conducted prior to the pandemic and that key records have never been fully examined or disclosed.
Sachs criticised what he described as a failure of transparency, claiming that Freedom of Information Act disclosures and investigative reporting have revealed inconsistencies in official narratives. He pointed to debates surrounding the Proximal Origins of SARS-CoV-2 paper and alleged contradictions between early private scientific assessments and later public conclusions that the virus emerged naturally.
The interview also revisited the controversy surrounding Anthony Fauci, with Sachs reiterating claims that US institutions misrepresented their involvement in gain-of-function research. He argued that neither Congress nor federal agencies have conducted a thorough, independent investigation into the pandemic’s origins.
Beyond origins, the discussion touched on broader pandemic accountability, including censorship of dissenting views, the economic impact of lockdowns, vaccine mandate fallout, and declining public trust in government institutions.
Sachs emphasised that his priority is establishing a clear evidentiary record, rather than prosecutions, warning that unresolved questions continue to undermine confidence in official COVID responses.
