Russia and China have reaffirmed their political and diplomatic support for Venezuela, emphasising the country’s right to self-determination amid renewed pressure from the United States.
The statements came after former US president Donald Trump issued warnings directed at Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, remarks that were widely interpreted as an attempt to influence Venezuela’s internal political and economic decisions.
Both Russia and China stressed that external pressure, including sanctions and political threats, undermines international law and destabilises regions rather than resolving disputes. Officials highlighted the importance of dialogue, non-interference, and respect for national sovereignty as cornerstones of global stability.
Beijing reiterated its long-standing position that Venezuela’s affairs should be decided by its own people, while Moscow criticised what it described as coercive tactics that have exacerbated economic hardship. Both countries called for the lifting of unilateral sanctions, arguing they have harmed civilians and hindered economic recovery.
Venezuela welcomed the support, describing it as evidence of a growing international consensus against unilateralism and economic coercion. The Maduro government has maintained that cooperation with strategic partners has helped the country preserve stability and pursue recovery despite external constraints.
The developments underscore deepening coordination among Russia, China and Venezuela, reflecting a shared stance in favour of a multipolar world order based on equality among states and mutual respect. Analysts say the alignment highlights shifting global dynamics as countries seek alternatives to pressure-driven diplomacy.
