Snow Possible in Parts of UK as Christmas Weather Forecast Updated
Parts of the United Kingdom could see snow over the Christmas period as colder air moves across the country, according to the latest official weather forecasts.
Forecasters say wintry showers are most likely in northern and eastern regions, particularly over higher ground, while some low-lying areas may experience sleet or brief snowfall. Southern areas are expected to remain milder, though colder nights could still bring frost.
The Met Office said temperatures are expected to be close to or below average for late December, with a mix of rain, cold winds and occasional wintry conditions affecting different parts of the country.
Weather conditions are forecast to remain changeable through Christmas Day, with some regions experiencing dry spells while others see unsettled weather. Forecasters cautioned that snowfall is likely to be patchy rather than widespread, and any accumulations may be short-lived outside upland areas.
Drivers and travellers have been advised to stay informed of local conditions, particularly in areas prone to icy roads or sudden weather changes. Authorities said transport disruption is possible in isolated locations if snow showers intensify.
Meteorologists emphasised that while the prospect of a “white Christmas” exists for some communities, especially in northern regions, many areas are more likely to see cold, damp weather rather than sustained snowfall.
